IDK WHAT WEEK IT IS I LOST COUNT

Ya’ll tbh i can’t keep up with what week it is. Is this 11? 12? 13? 20? WHO KNOWS. But the apocalypse has been wiping my brain of attempting to keep up with dates.

Anyways, this was a really fun week. I enjoyed doing many different projects regarding my novel I Am Legend.

28-days-later-gif-downsized_large

I honestly really enjoyed this novel, and I think my assignments I did for stars this week can sort of prove that.

For this week I did these projects:

How to never fear again: REMIX A SONG W SPEECH

http://www.elainafinklestein.com/assignments/character-word-cloud-robert-neville/

http://www.elainafinklestein.com/assignments/playlist-poetry/

My favorite assignment I did was for sure without a DOUBT the music remix one. I literally spent hours working on it and I enjoyed the process because I am a music technology major. I worked on logic pro x to create the remix and I found the audio from YouTube!

If you haven’t heard it: check it out

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Look to your right. The thing you see is the only weapon you’ll have during the End. How will you use it to survive?

To my right is a rock that is sharp at one side. I use the rock throughout the Apocalypse to help kill zombies with it lol

Week 11 recap!

WEEK 11 WAS LIT!

giphy

I had so much fun doing video assignments. I did two videos: an Apocalypse Q&A and also the ‘Where do your shoes take you’? Both were really fun, and I enjoyed filming and editing them.

Besides that I also did two daily creates:

I thought my daily creates were super funny this week (mostly because I got to make fun of kim and kanye! lol)

I also created various projects and media work for the class to do that I thought would be enjoyable.
Here are my assignments:

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

You hear on the radio that the End has started. What do you do first?

The first thing I would do is reach out to my loves ones and make sure we have a game plan to stick together and be safe. My family is everything to me, so my first thought would be to call them asap.

Video week WRAPPED UP

Wow this week went by super fast?? Is it just me?!

I think video week was one of my favorites because I enjoyed doing all the video projects for stars. My star projects I created was a video of me reading a letter to my old self and also me doing the weather. I had a lot of fun working on these, but I think I would have rather done a group project because I enjoy working with people and I would have rather worked on a group project where I could be creative with others versus doing things alone.

giphy

Besides that, here are my daily creates I did this week:

If I am being completely transparent, I didn’t enjoy reading the article about movie tips because I found that rather boring, however I did enjoy making my own analysed video clip even though I’m not sure if it is correct. I really don’t like analyzing movies because most of the time I just don’t find them interesting, but I sat down and did the best I could for this project. I was hoping I could make a video about my book I Am Legend that is also a movie because I would love to make a video comparing the book story to the movie story.

Question of the week:

What question would you like to ask the class?

If you could save ANYONE (just one person) in your life to stay alive during the apocalypse, who would it be and why?

WEEK 9 WORKAHOLINGIN’

WEEK 9 WAS LIT. HERE’S WHY:

Assignment: Revision Reflection

For this assignment, I chose to re-do my book poster that I didn’t think went too well the first time. I was upset that I didn’t do that good of a job at the poster for my I AM LEGEND book, so here is the re-done copy!

screen-shot-2018-03-22-at-7-41-48-pm

I really worked hard to make this assignment better, and after reading the whole book and finishing everything i think this cover for sure goes better with the theme of the book.

Assignment: Radio Show Reflection

I had SO much fun with the radio shows this week. I really enjoyed live tweeting during our show and seeing what people thought. I worked really hard creating all the bumpers and editing all the audio, so i’m really glad people on twitter took notice of the bumpers and editing that i did. I was really anxious about the project because i truly don’t like working in group projects, HOWEVER MY GROUP WAS FLIPPIN AWESOME. I loved working with everything because we all vibed really well and we all bounced our creativity off of each other. I think it was good to meet up with people from the class and do such a hands on project because it really impacted the way i want to keep doing my work. I also enjoyed listening to the show on tuesday. it was interesting to see what other people did with their show. All in all, this was probably one of my favorite weeks.

What’s one thing you definitely couldn’t live without during the apocalpyse?
How would you go about obtaining it?

I wouldn’t want to live without a gun (especially a m16 fun) because I would want to feel protected and I would want to be able to support my loved ones who are still alive.

This week I also enjoyed doing the daily creates! Here is what I came up with:

Weekly recap: 7&8

These past two weeks have been super crazy! I FINALLY finished I Am Legend, which I put most of my focus on during spring break, and also finished up our Radio Show! I am so excited for everyone to hear what we’re doing and all our crazy segments. We have all definitely worked hard on it, so I am excited to hear the feedback.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

If the apocalypse were to happen, and you had to become something. . .else.
Which kind of something would you want to be and why?

This is for sure a question I’ve actually thought a lot about since taking this class. My answer would probably be to become a time-traveler. I’ve always been so fascinated by time and I love movies like Back to the Future that use time to understand the past and present. I would love to go back and forth and travel time with that power. I think it would be scary at first, but super cool to be able to hop back and forth in time.

giphy-52

This week I also enjoyed doing all the daily creates. I enjoy doing them, and I liked the fact that I got to pick out the ones I wanted to do. I love trying to things and being as creative as possible. Some of the ones this week were a bit too easy and didn’t push me as much as I would have hoped, so my strategy was to wait a couple days and check to see in every day which ones I thought were hard and good enough to do.

I plan on listening to as many radio shows as I can this week and to live tweet my reactions! Can’t wait to hear what everyone comes up with!

Weekly wrap-up 6

This basically wraps up what I did this week:

HA JK. But I do love this gif.

This week was personally one of my favorite weeks yet because it was challenging, yet pushed me to work my hardest. I don’t think i’m that good at graphic designing, but I had a lot of fun working on Adobe and canva this week. I think the assignment I struggled with the most is the book cover, but the best part of this week was the designblitz. I ran around the offices at school and my internship looking for graphics, and it was fun to find them and figure out what kind of graphic design purpose they had.

This week I spent most of my time reading I Am Legend- my book for this class. I am a very bad reader and reading is really difficult for me, and i’m scared i am falling behind on that, so i’ve been spending most of my time reading my book. I really enjoy it, but it’s kinda scary at some points so for me personally i read over the scary parts and skim that, but I read the parts that don’t freak me out. (i hope thats okay lol) The movie was not as good as this book and I am loving it so far, but don’t want to be behind so i’ve been trying really hard and i’m almost finished with it!

Question of the week:

What’s been the most succcesful group you’ve been a part of and what
made it work?

Okay, so I’ve never been in a group- EVER- where everyone got a long. A lot of the time i’m the pusher who pushes people to do work and I’m usually THAT student who wants to work really hard and get everything done but I always SOMEHOW get stuck with people who are too lazy to do work. I have been in groups with one other person and if it’s a two person group they usually always are successful, however groups with 3 or more people are T R O U B L E.

Week 5 rundown!

My favorite part of this week was EASILY tweeting with the class listening to #DS106Radio! Literally it was histerical. It was so funny my roommates ended up listening to some of the show with me. I missed 5 minutes of it because I ran to the bathroom, lol, but besides that it was SO fun. I was nervous because I thought I may have been tweeting a biiit too much, but then I was like whatever it’s better than tweeting too less. I loved reading what Lauren and Joshua were writing as well. It was such a fun night and an incredibly fun assignment.

Also this was me the whole time:

giphy

For the rest of the week, I enjoyed a lot of the audio assigmenets. I actually did the “What song am I humming?” assignment and I had a lot of fun with that. (Even though everyone guessed it right away) I also had fun with the Frequency assignment, although I spent wayyyy too much time listening to everyone else’s recordings. I enjoyed going through them, but I did get a bit overwhelmed because I didn’t want to make my recording boring- I wanted it to be cool and futuristic, which I think I did my best to do.

giphy

Overall, I think this week was a lot of fun, but I felt like I wanted to work more on some audio based projects. My resume I made for my character was also a huge highlight for me. I spent a lot of time creating my character and thinking about who I wanted her to be. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make her the office space, but for me making a resume was actually a super productive assignment because it got me to think bigger and deeper about the details of my character. I’m super excited to hear what people think of her, and I enjoyed creating her resume (which may or may not look better than my actual resume lol)

I think this week was a lot of fun! I want to continue to work hard with audio, and I hope we get to live tweet more throughout the semester bc that was literally amazing..

giphy

The weekly question was “how are you feeling?” and so far, I am feeling really excited about this class. There’s not many classes you can be creatively challenged by- and this class is for sure something I have been wanting for a while. I feel more creative overall, and I love working with everything digital.

Week 4 rundown: Photography fun!

This week was probabaly my favorite week of class so far. First of all, my favorite activity was the photoblitz! I took pictures around the newsroom at my internship and it was so fun. I was running around in a hurry, and my co-workers got into the photoblitz as well! It was such a fun little activity. Taking the pictures were easy, but I primarily spent my time editing all the pictures to turn out the way I wanted them too. I edited my photos with Adobe and a cheap App I found on the App store. What I enjoyed was how we had to take the photos in 20 minutes- I think after learning more tips and tricks it was challenging because we always want to take the best picture, but the time limit made it difficult.

Here are my edited photos from the blitz!

I also enjoyed Tweeting this week for the Daily Challenges. Here is what I came up with!

I didn’t focus too heeavily on the daily creates this week unlike last week because I wanted to spend time watching Mad Max and also learning more about photography. When reaseraching and reading the tips, my main focus was learning new angles and trying to get better at making pictures not so “perfect”.

I enjoyed watching the movies for this week, and I really enjoyed doing my 6 stars. I have to say, I liked the prompts for the stars last week better than the ones this week because I didn’t feel very challenged or sparked to be creative. Last week I was really excited because I enjoyed the prompts, however I still enjoyed doing them. I actually thought of some cool new prompts that I might want to share eventually!

Do you think an animated GIF can be considered a story? Why or why not? It would be great to include some
examples to illustrate your thoughts.

I 100% think that a gif tells a story. It’s literally a visual story lol. Gifs are so unique in the fact that they are short clips, but within those clips they are 100% a visual story. I don’t know how to more further expand, because to me it’s so obviously a story. Here are some gifs that I found that tell a story:

Week 3 Run Down

This week was pretty hard. I struggled on some of the writing assignments, but overall i’m pretty happy with what I produced. I was freaking out at first because it was a lot of work to do, but once I sat down and started reading through the assignment bank, I had fun with the prompts!

I also had fun doing the daily creates this week. Below are my Tweets:

This week I also began reading the first chapter of the book I decided to read: I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. I decided I will be reading a chapter a week, and I think that will get me to finish the book by March!

giphy-15

In addition to all of this, I did all the assignments for this week, and I also started organizing my site! I decided to make categories on my website labeled Media & Writing Assignments, Reflections, and Weekly Posts. They are under a drop down menu for my “The End” menu category on my website. I think this way it will be a good way to organize all my posts, and ultimately will make my site clean and all my work clear to where it is posted.

There were two projects by my classmates that ultimately caught my attention. The first thing I loved reading was “Growing on Me” by Janice! I enjoyed reading this reflection post by her because I feel like i identify with her a lot. Like Janice, I have not read a lot of apocalypse literature and I haven’t watched many movies. It was refreshing to read her post because I didn’t feel alone in the way that this is my first time learning about apocalypse fiction, writings, and media.  The other thing I really liked is from Joshua! I really enjoyed reading his alternate short story to the Tupac story. I loved how he wrote the ending, and I think he did a pretty awesome job writing an ending that was different, but could also flow with the storyline. I also enjoyed his tweets (they literally make me laugh all the time) and I loved his Tell it/Tweet it challenge! YAY JOSHUA! YAY JANICE! I really love looking at everyone’s tweets- honestly I think that’s one of my favorite parts of the class so far, but these we’re my favorite posts I enjoyed reading! 🙂

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

In the event of an apocalypse, do you think you’d be the kind of
person to hoard your supplies (for yourself and your loved ones)
or would you share them with those around you in need? Why or why
not?

In all honestly, I really had to think hard about this question. I don’t want to be that bitch who doesn’t help others, but then again I feel like in this situation I would be really selfish. I really want to be the type of person who would help others, and ultimately I know I would, but when it comes to food i’m literally such a selfish bitch. I HATE sharing food, so I know I def wouldn’t share in this type of event lmao. HOWEVER, I totally would share other things like knifes, bombs, clothes, sticks, etc etc etc. The only thing I wouldn’t share is food because when I’m hungry i’m such an asshole and even in a world where there isn’t an apocalypse I don’t share lol.

The End: Week 2 rundown

I started out my week doing two Daily Create challenges! I had a lot of fun with these, and I enjoyed having to run around my kitchen making up a new name for something! I enjoy challenges where we get to tweet because it’s more difficult for me, but I think it truly pushes me outside my comfort zone and forces me to think outside the box of what I usually do. I felt a little lost this week because I was trying to catch up with the readings, but those are hard for me because I’m a terrible reader. To help me feel better, my roommates and I have been diving in all things apocalypse since this is all really new to me. We watched a movie called World War Z which was really cool but scary af!~ Like holy crap I hope nothing like that ACTUALLY happens, but it was good to watch a movie because now I can dive into more things now.

I really enjoyed watching the Kurt Vonnegut youtube video, but I’m not gonna lie- I literally had to watch it 5 times to understand it. After watching it a bunch of times, I finally understood what he was saying and I enjoyed what Kurt had to say. I thought it was funny how he joked about Cinderella in the presentation because that’s so relatable and honestly just hysterical. I think the coolest thing I read for week 2 was about Twitter Fiction. I thought the article was honestly just super cool and I love how we can use social media in so many creative ways. I think the article inspired me to get better at Twitter and to start really working with the platform (even though I don’t tweet regularly like on my personal account), I always thought Twitter was becoming this dead social media platform where no one did anything but complain and talk about old Vines, however this article gave me a different outlook that makes me want to dive deeper into the Twittersphere. I enjoyed Anne Enright’s Tweet fiction the most, and after I read it I lowkey started social media stalking her which inspired me to write my Tweet about Marty from UMW. Even though I didn’t get many likes and I’m not sure if people saw my Tweet fiction, I was really proud of it. I think it was my first attempt at getting outside of the usual Twitter environment and finally posting something creative. I can’t tell if the Tweet fiction I wrote was incredible cringey, or cool- but I’m willing to be cringey on Twitter until I finally get things right.

I decided that I will be reading I Am Legend for this class! I saw the movie in a Cinema class I took in High School in 9th grade, and I remember I was so fascinated by it. I had no idea it was based off of a book, so I’m super pumped to start reading it. Only problem is- I am a terrible reader. It’s not that I’m lazy, I just have a hard time reading. I think this book will be a good fit for me because i’m that type of person that literally won’t read something if I’m not interested in the subject- but since I connected with the movie so much I thought the book would be a great choice. After watching World War Z with my roommates I also think that will be a great book to read as well!

In regards to the daily creates this week, I honestly had SO much fun with them omg! My favorite thing I created was this picture I photoshopped of me traveling into another dimension! This was for the challenge on Thursday! I actually worked super hard on this picture, and I really liked how it came out!!

Question of the Week:

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, would you rather be turned into a zombie or have everyone you love turned into a zombie? Why?

Okay so I’ve actually thought about this while I was reading the Hunger Games back in the day! But if anything like zombies or like aliens or crazy shit happened, I would want to be a zombie with everyone else because I would be too scared to be alive and scared if I wasn’t one already. Also, I probably wouldn’t survive any zombie Apocalypse because lets face it, I’m out of shape and can’t run for shit so it wouldn’t take much for me to become a zombie honestly. I don’t think i’m a strong survivalist and I don’t feel like I have enough skills to literally not become infected or turned into a zombie so I’d def be turned into one just to save the trouble and effort of trying to stay human lol
